President returns home amid continuing health fears

On the night of May 12, Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev returned home from Turkey,  having undergone medical treatment at the Gulhane Military Medical Academy since May 3.
Following the announcement, the press office of the Presidential Administration, did not elaborate on the state of health of the president. However, it was reported that no official reception for President Aliyev was scheduled for Monday, and he will work in accordance with his usual schedule.
Rumours abound that the President will leave for the United States to continue medical treatment at the Cleaveland Hospital.
The President marked his 80th birthday at Gulhane on May 10, with family members flown to Ankara to congratulate him. On the same day he was visited by Turkish officials.
Turkish president visits
Turkish President Ahmet Nejdet Sezer paid a courtesy visit to his Azerbaijani counterpart Heydar Aliyev at the Gulhane Military Medical Academy. Congratulating Heydar Aliyev on his 80th birthday, Ahmet Necdet Sezer wished him long life and good health and expressed confidence that the Azerbaijani president will return Home shortly. The press office of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration has informed AssA-Irada that the meeting also discussed issues of bilateral relations, as well as other developments in the world.
At the end of the warm and friendly meeting, the Turkish president congratulated Heydar Aliyev once more on his birthday and wished Azerbaijan prosperity and new successes under his leadership.
Afterwards, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Head of the General Staff General Hilmi Ozkok and ex-President Suleyman Demirel visited to congratulate the Azerbaijani president.
