Troops to participate in Iraq peacekeeping
"Azerbaijan is ready to take part in the humanitarian rehabilitation of Iraq after the present conflict," reads a press release by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
Shedding light on the issue, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Vilayat Quliyev told AssA-Irada that Azerbaijan's contribution will more deal with the period to follow the end of the conflict. The minister believes that if the hostilities are successfully over, the Iraqi people will have much to rebuild, and the process will need the involvement of Azerbaijani specialists in oil, public and other spheres, to complete.
At the same time, reminding of official Baku's statement on readiness to participate in conservation of the holy places of Islam, and generally to assist in removing after-effects of the conflict, the minister stressed that if required, Azerbaijan would be ready to form part of the peacekeeping regiment in Iraq.
