Baku deeply concerned over Iraq

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has voiced serious concern over the Iraq war in its statement last week.

The statement reads: "Azerbaijan is observing the developments in Iraq with deep concern and anxiety. Azerbaijan, which sticks determinedly to the norms and principles of international law, calls on Iraq to fully comply with UN Security Council resolutions (678, 687, 1441).

Having become a victim of serious violations of international law norms and principles as a result of the ongoing Armenian aggression and occupation, Azerbaijan urges the world community to ensure compliance with UN Security Council resolutions (822, 853, 874, 884) regarding the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Upper Qarabag.

Azerbaijan is an active participant in the US-led anti-terrorism fight. Being a party to all essential international legal documents concerning nuclear disarmament and the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, Azerbaijan builds its foreign policy in strict compliance with these principles.

We back the international coalition's efforts toward soonest resolution of the Iraqi crisis and urges to strict adherance to international humanitarian law while taking military action in Iraq.

Azerbaijan is ready to participate in the humanitarian rehabilitation of post-war Iraq".
