Latvian Foreign Minister brings food aid for refugees
The visiting Latvian Foreign Minister Indulis Berzinsh has visited the incompletely built dormitory of the Sattarkhan mechanical engineering works, which is home to internally displaced persons.
Deputy chairman of the state commission on refugees Sahib Rahimov thanked the diplomat on behalf of the IDPs. He said there are 450 similar dormitories in Baku accommodating refugees and IDPs who have been ousted from their homes as a result of Armenian aggression.
Having toured the rooms, which have no modern conveniences, the Latvian minister said, “I can imagine the living conditions of refugees settled in tent-camps, if those based in the capital city have to live in such deprivation”. He added that he respects Azerbaijan’s adherence to a negotiated settlement of the conflict, pledging that Latvia would continue defending Azerbaijan’s fair cause in international organizations.
The 2.5 tons of food (sugar, tea, rice, macaroni, etc.) has been distributed among refugees, according to the state commission.*
