Azeri investment ‘to flow into friendly nations’
President Ilham Aliyev has said Azerbaijan should make investment primarily in friendly countries.
“As the country’s economic opportunities increase, we are investing in other states. A number of countries worldwide are expecting investment from Azerbaijan today,” Aliyev said in a meeting of Azerbaijani ambassadors in Baku on Monday.
He said that in the past year alone, $2.5 billion has been invested in neighboring Turkey and Georgia, and the placement of funds in overseas markets continues.
“We are looking for outlets not only in the energy sector but also in other fields. We have opportunities to do this,” Aliyev said.
He said the goal of investing abroad was to bolster Azerbaijan’s economic interests and to foster ramification of the national economy.
The president added that all these accomplishments would allow the country to pursue its foreign policy more successfully.*
