Azeri billionaire plans Tottenham takeover
Azerbaijani billionaire Vagit Alekperov plans to buy England’s Tottenham football club.
The 57-year-old oil tycoon will bid £400 million (about $800 million) for the controlling package in the club, British media reported.
Tottenham’s leadership are trying to draw hefty investments by selling out stock in order to improve the performance of the team.
Alekperov, born in Azerbaijan and president of Russian oil giant Lukoil, is said to be keen and has the resources needed for the transaction as he is rated by Forbes magazine as the 48th richest man in the world with an £8billion fortune.
A Far Eastern consortium is said to be the other potential bidder.
A deal could be put forward and announced to the London Stock Exchange in the next two weeks.*
