US allots $37m for Azeri mosque renovation

The US embassy in Baku has allocated $37 million for the renovation of an Azerbaijani mosque dated the 17th-18th centuries as part of the “ambassadorial fund for preservation of culture” project.

The Gala Mosque located in the Gala settlement of Baku will be restored with support from the Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Derse said that this was the second project implemented by the US embassy in Azerbaijan. She said that the restoration of a mosque in the Gum village of Azerbaijan’s western Gakh District would be completed by the end of this year.*
