Germany to aid solar energy use in Azerbaijan
Germany intends to implement the use of solar energy in Azerbaijan, the Mayor of Mainz Jens Beutel said on Thursday.
“In a while oil and gas will begin to run out in Azerbaijan. Your country should start getting ready for this straight sway. Considering this, we discussed during our meetings in Baku the use of solar energy,” he told a press conference on the results of his visit to the country.
Beutel and his delegation had meetings at the Ministry of Industry and Energy and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The mayor went on to say that his country was interested in expanding relations with Azerbaijan. He emphasized that the city of Mainz, with a two millennia-long history and a population of 200,000 people, has a powerful economy.
Sharing his impressions of the visit, Beutel said the German representatives visited the Gabala, Shaki, Ganja, Shamkir and Yevlakh districts to study their socio-economic development. They also enquired about the living conditions of refugees and IDPs settled near Yevlakh.
“I had a bad impression about their plight and was truly moved. Among our plans in Azerbaijan is to improve their living standards,” Beutel pledged.
“I am leaving Azerbaijan with good impressions. This is a very nice country that is progressing. Your country has very nice people as well. The greatest advantage of my visit was that I was able to become closely acquainted with this nation,” the German official said.
During the visit, the mayor visited Azerbaijan’s northwestern Khanlar and Shamkir districts, an ancient Albanian church and a wine factory and walked along the streets once paved by Germans in Khanlar. He also visited historical sites in the Shamkir district.*
