Louvre Museum director in Baku
The Director of the world-famous Louvre Museum Henri Loyrette arrived in Baku on Tuesday.
Loyrette told journalists upon arrival that he intended to expand relations with Azerbaijan. He said the key goal of his visit was to establish cooperation between Azerbaijani museums and the Louvre Museum as well as to take some exhibits from Azerbaijan, which has ancient history, to his museum.
As for the preservation of Azerbaijani carpets kept at the Louvre Museum, Loyrette said special areas were designated on the premises for the purpose.
The museum director said a separate saloon on Islamic culture and history has been set up at the Louvre Museum, and is due to open in 2009. All the exhibits will be properly preserved and cherished in the facility, he added.
The Louvre Museum was visited by a record high of 8.3 million people in 2006. It stands out for its comprehensive collection of exhibits pertaining to all areas of world culture. Another attraction for visitors is the museum’s being located in a castle.*
