1,007 HIV cases in Azerbaijan

The number of HIV/AIDS cases in Azerbaijan is 1,007, including 54 foreign nationals, according to the State Committee on Family, Women and Children’s Issues.

A total of 127 people of HIV-infected people have passed away.

The Committee estimates that 191 people have been infected with the virus in the country in the past four months.

4.3 million people contracted the virus around the world in 2006, reports say. A total of 40 million persons are suffering from the disease, including 2.3 million children.*
