Azeri athletes to participate in 1st Islamic Solidarity Games
152 Azerbaijani athletes will leave for Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to participate in the first Islamic Solidarity Games.
Saudi Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ali Hassan Jafar met with Azerbaijani athletes at the National Olympic Committee on Tuesday.
The Ambassador said that Mecca and Medina will host for the first time such an international tournament, bringing together athletes from more than 50 Islamic countries.
Azerbaijan has been invited to the Games by the Islamic Conference Organization, which came up with an initiative in 2004 to organize the competition.
The Islamic Solidarity Games will be held at the up-to-date sports complexes and stadiums of Mecca, Medina, Jeddah and Taif from April 8 to April 22.
Azerbaijani athletes will compete in the tournament in 12 categories.*
